Curated by Antonia Nessi and Cristina Sonderegger
This retrospective exhibition dedicated to the work of Renzo Ferrari (b.1939, Cadro), retraces the artist’s entire creative journey, starting in the late 1950s, immediately after his studies at Milan’s Brera Academy, right up to the present day.
Produced in collaboration with Neuchatel’s Musée d’Art et d’Histoire the display curated by Antonia Nessi and Cristina Sonderegger unfolds over three floors at the Museo Cantonale d’Arte and features some one hundred and fifty works.
Featuring seven chronological/thematic sections, it invites the visitor to explore the artist’s expressive universe by forging a dialogue between the different techniques he has experimented with. Paintings, drawings, engravings and meta-language approaches, including collage as well as assemblages of found objects, are juxtaposed in a non-hierarchical way, with the intention of demonstrating the real richness of Ferrari’s artistic output.
In addition to paintings and drawings, everything was recorded by the artist, in his Moleskine notebooks, which are also on display within the exhibition. Alongside the artworks themselves, the visitors will be able to view a series of films, including Walker. Renzo Ferrari by Director Villi Hermann, shot in 2004 and following the artist in Cadro, Milan and New York.
