On November 10, 2024 the Coro Lirico di Lugano will be performing at Lugano LAC Theatre Puccini al LAC or, otherwise stated, Puccini from A to T: A, like Anna, the protagonist of his first opera, Le Villi, and T, like Turandot the last enigmatic heroine, the icy Chinese princess, focused on her own and her ancestors' sufferings but unconcerned about those of others, stiffly moving forewords in the foggy traumas of the past and therefore unable to feel the present, to rely on and relate to others, to love until the peremptory “Nessun dorma” (Turandot commands thus: “Tonight no one must sleep in Peking!”), turns into an unexpected inner awakening and the victory of love. In between, you’ll meet some other tragic heroines: Madama Butterfly, Tosca and the frivolous Manon Lescaut through the poignant intermezzo of the eponymous opera. We are going through the creative life of Puccini up to the fateful November 1924 and to his death, remembered this year all over the world. His music never stops arousing intense emotions through moments of daily life, but also through enchanted and exotic scenarios, moving deep and timeless feelings, reproducing the intimacy of his heroines: the fresh naiveté of the unhappy Anna, the tragic conflicts of Madama Butterfly, faithful bride and caring mother, the passion of Tosca, doomily desired by the powerful and arrogant Barone Scarpia, towards the grandiose crescendo from a dazzling fairy-tale setting, where time is measured only by the amount of cut heads, to the symbolic love between Prince Kalaf and the irresistible, cruel Princess Turandot.
These timeless passions are going to be expressed by some eighty passionate choristers of Coro Lirico di Lugano, by Opera ViVa Orchestra and, above all, by Maestro Andrea Cupia, the conductor who, with competence and grace, has been following and stimulating the choir since its very beginning. In addition, the cast includes three excellent soloists: soprano Serena Farnocchia and baritone Eugene Villanueva, longtime residents of our region, and the powerful young Spanish tenor David Baños.

The concert is meant to give pleasure to everybody, even to the listener who are not so familiar with opera music.
